About me

I am British/Italian and moved to the UK from Italy in 1989 to attend drama school and pursue an acting career for ten years. Following this, I had a brief stint in advertising and then worked in the charitable sector. I also worked as a volunteer counsellor for a number of years which led to my professional training in psychotherapy.

I am passionate about healing and personal growth and the power of expression and ritual to help us heal. As a young woman, I experienced first-hand how acting brought me out of myself and gave me an avenue for self-expression, providing a greater context in which to understand my own difficult feelings and start to make sense of things.

Our modern day world lacks rites of passages to help us navigate the different seasons of our lives. Therapy can create a safe 'container' in which transformation can happen, bringing together old and new threads of our identity into an emergent new version of self. The Zen saying ‘Always being always becoming’  speaks to the evolutionary impulse to grow and evolve, even as we honour and acknowledge the person we have been.

I have a keen interest in the integration of Western psychology and non-dual wisdom teachings and in the embodiment of awakened awareness in everyday life. I believe our lives are not random and chaotic – and if we can heed the still voice within that wants to guide us on our path, we can start to make sense of our suffering and find a way to live that is aligned with our deeper, more soulful impulses.

I value the wisdom of dreams and if you have an active dream life or an important dream you wish to explore in therapy, I welcome it. Dreams help us make contact with the creative and fulfilling 'lunar' aspects of our being that may be harder to access in the more controlling and neurotic mindset of our everyday 'solar' awareness. The psyche is inherently creative and speaks to us symbolically through the imaginal and dream world. Dreams not only bring unconscious processes to our awareness, their powerful symbolic images work to integrate the shadow aspects of oneself to achieve a more holistic experience of who we are. Jung called this the process of individuation, which is also the psyche’s quest for wholeness.

Finally, like plants, we can only ascend to the degree that we are rooted in the Earth. As such, trauma work is an essential component of deep therapy. Trauma takes place when the nervous system is overwhelmed and unable to discharge adrenalin, which becomes stuck in the body-mind, preventing us from being properly grounded in our body and living with joy  and ease. While all mammals suffer from trauma to some degree, in order for healthy functioning to be restored and the nervous system regulated, trauma must be released from the body-mind. There are many approaches to addressing trauma, and care and sensitivity are essential in order not to create more overwhelm. My training includes working at the level of both the mind and the body, including use of breathwork and movement, to help restore regulation.  â€‹â€‹
